OXFORD - Oxford used balanced offense in the opening quarter to establish command over Afton in Thursday night’s game.

Six different players contributed to Oxford’s 23-point opening quarter with Cameron Heggie and Andrew Golden bucketing six points apiece, and Kevin Davis adding five. That balance extended to the game-ending box score as Golden finished with 22, and Heggie netted a season-high 19. Golden added 13 rebounds, while Davis charted nine boards and four assists.

“At this point of the season, we need to balance some things out on offense,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “We need to get others to score (other than Andrew), especially early in the game. We worked on some different things on offense this week, and some other guys got involved.”

Unadilla Valley 39, Greene 31

GREENE – Unadilla Valley was held to its season-low point total Thursday evening, and held off Greene’s fourth-quarter comeback.

Amanda Off, Jordan Anderson, and Taylor Davis combined for all 11 of UV’s points in the last quarter. The Storm, who led by 10 entering the final eight minutes, had that lead sliced to four points on more than one occasion.

“I thought if we held (their points) to the high 30s or low 40s, we had a chance to win,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We played very well defensively, we just couldn’t get over the hump in the last quarter.”

Tiffany Borst scored the first two baskets for Greene in the fourth, and Kaitlin Gorton came alive for the next eight points. Gorton was held to just two points through the first three quarters, and finished with 10. “UV did a good job helping on Kaitlin tonight,” Gorton said.

Off led UV with 14 points and Anderson had 13.
