Connor Matthews set the tone for Windsor in the night’s opening match edging the Tornado’s Carter Hubbard, 5-4, at 113 pounds. Norwich strung together four victories in a row between 132 and 152 pounds. Tristan Rifanburg (132) won by pin, while Nick Murphy (138), Josh Myers (145), and Frank Garcia (152) all won major decisions. Dalen Geislinger added a pin at 99 pounds, and was dominant on his feet, said NHS coach Joe Downey.

“Windsor is a real tough team, and they always seem to wrestle us tough,” Downey said. “Dalen had a great match for us, and it was the most aggressive I have seen him. Nick is having a really good year and has stepped up for us, and it was nice to get Josh Myers back.”

Union-Endicott 98, Norwich 87

NORWICH – In a matchup of unbeaten teams, Union-Endicott had the better of the depth points in the second half of the meet to edge the Purple Tornado swimmers Tuesday evening at Echentile Natatorium.

Norwich led by two after the diving competition, but was slightly outgunned by the Class A Tigers the rest of the way. “They had a little bit stronger depth placing more second- and third-place finishers than ours,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “We had 11 personal-best swims tonight, so from that perspective, it was a very good meet for us. Up and down the lineup we swam very well and we’re showing massive improvement. We have nothing to be ashamed of, we just came up on the short end tonight.”

Grant Horton (50 free), Ricky Finnegan (diving), and Curtis Woodard (100 butterfly) gave Norwich three wins in succession. Later on, Nick Mooney picked up a win for NHS in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Norwich returns to the pool Friday when it visits Windsor.
