Megan Golden scored 17 of her career-high 21 points in the opening 16 minutes leading her club to a 24-7 advantage. Most of Golden’s points came in transition following Walton turnovers. “They had trouble with our halfcourt trap, and that led to some easy baskets,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “That was the difference in the game.”

Rachel Seiler finished with eight points for the Blackhawks, who also received six rebounds from senior Sarah Renaud. The Blackhawks play at Hancock Monday.

ILION – Sherburne-Earlville slowed down Ilion’s top scorer, and went to junior forward Austin Jasper to carry the scoring load in Thursday’s road victory.

The Tigers’ Herschel Ivey had 21 points through three periods keeping his club within one. The Marauders went to a box-and-one defense over the final eight minutes, and limited Ivey’s penetration and inside scoring opportunities. “We played outstanding team defense throughout the game, and we were able to slow (Ivey) down in the final quarter,” said Marauders coach Kevin Vibbard.
