Norwich 103, Greene 76

GREENE - Norwich won the battle of Chenango County teams Friday night at Greene capturing nine of 12 events to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Killian Benedict and Curtis Woodard had a pair of individual wins for NHS. Benedict won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Woodard took the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. “As far as I can see, Norwich is definitely a team that should contend for the Class B championship this year,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “They are as deep a team as they are fast. They should be a team to be reckoned with when they reach the championship portion of the season.”

Chris Bay figured in all three of the Trojans’ win including a record-breaking performance in the 200-yard freestyle. Bay broke a seven-year mark set by Robin Walker in 2005 timing 1.56.87, more than two seconds lower than Walker’s record time. Bay also won the 100 free and was part of the 400 freestyle relay.

Sherburne-Earlville wins at buzzer

ADIRONDACK – Sherburne-Earlville extended its winning streak to six games with a buzzer-beating shot Saturday at Adirondack.

Matt Smith converted his only field goal of the game nailing a midcourt shot to give the Marauders a 41-38 victory. S-E gained possession of the ball on the sideline at the far end of the floor. Elijah Morris made a touch pass to Smith, who took the 45-foot shot in rhythm. “The shot was true, and it just swished,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “I’ve never had a game end with a halfcourt shot in 24 years of coaches. You see teams attempt these types of shots, but how many times to they go in?”

It was the second close win this week for S-E, who edged Clinton by one point on Thursday. “We have a veteran team with a lot of guys back,” Vibbard said. “They have played a lot of games together, and they handle these type of situations (late in games) well.”

Austin Jasper led S-E with 11 points and Sam Caton added 10. S-E hosts Holland Patent Tuesday.

Milford 56, G-MU 21

MILFORD – G-MU was not overwhelmed at the start as it did its previous two games, but still struggled on the offensive end throughout the 32-minute contest in a loss to Milford Friday.

Peyton Griffiths scored 19 points to top the Wildcats, who also beat Chenango County’s Unadilla Valley earlier in the week.

“The score doesn’t look like it, but we definitely played better in certain areas of the game,” said G-MU coach Rick Mohrein. “We struggled on offense, especially the fourth quarter. Still, I am seeing movement in the right direction.”

Tim French had nine points for G-MU, who hosts Cherry Valley-Springfield Wednesday.
