Unadilla Valley 3, Sidney 2

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley survived Sidney’s second-half comeback scoring the winning goal with just under nine minutes to play in Tuesday’s victory.

Sierra Badger’s winning goal came after a crisp crossing pass from Taylor Davis. Badger also had UV’s first goal as the host team constructed a 2-0 halftime advantage. “Both Taylor’s pass and Sierra’s shot were powerful,” said UV coach Janelle Ross. “The defense did not have time to react.”

Nicole Gramstad’s tally gave UV the two-goal edge, but the ebb and flow of the game slowly went Sidney’s way. Two goals within three minutes, the latter from McKenzie Gravelin at the 20-minute mark, knotted the game.

“I felt they might come back because the momentum was different at the start of the second half,” Ross said. “After they scored those two goals, we started to pick up our play again.”

The Vikings, coming off a pair of losses last weekend to Tyburn Academy and Madison, scored just 38 seconds into the game with Hope Reynolds netting her close-range shot after a pass from Kelsey Graves. “I was as surprised and shocked as anyone,” said OV coach Kevin Springer of the quick tally. “I thought scoring early would spark us, but from then on, we were flat.”

OXFORD – In a non-league matchup Tuesday, Tri-Valley League power Morris dominated the action winning at Oxford.

Jen Colburn scored the first and last goals for the Mustangs, and Amanda Flint along with Kelsea Webster had one goal and one assist. “They are a really good passing team, and they put the pressure on our defense,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza, who praised the play of goalie Rachel Seiler. “She did a great job and was really on her game tonight. FIELD HOCKEY

Greene 4, Maine-Endwell 0

ENDWELL - Winning its eleventh straight game of the season Tuesday night was not as easy as the final score indicated, said Greene coach Sue Carlin.

The Trojans built a 3-0 lead in the first half, and managed to post the club’s tenth shutout despite a half-dozen shots placed on goal by the Spartans.

“They played us tough, and it was a great game for us to get tested,” Carlin said. “We just found ways to get open, and we had some nice goals.”

Paige Castle deflected an Emma Anderson shot into the cage just 3:42 into the game. Emily Conroe lifted a shot through an open lane for the second goal 11 minutes later, and Emily Gascon scored on a feed from Jahna Driscoll to make it a three-goal margin.

Katherine Klecha had the lone second-half goal for the Trojans getting a pass from Jessica Durdon.

Greene hosts its own tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Sherburne-Earlville 2, Sauquoit Valley 0

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville won back-to-back games for the first time this season avenging a 1-0 loss to Sauquoit Valley from earlier this season.

After controlling play most of the first half, the Marauders (5-8) broke through with one minute remaining. Alex Hutchins initiated the score with a pass from the deep right corner to Emma Hodges, who immediately steered a pass to Shelby Scheffler for the tally. Nine minutes into the second half, Hutchins set up Megan Viera’s insurance goal.

“We played extremely well on both ends of the field, and really controlled the game,” said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. “Getting the shutout was big for the defense.”

S-E plays at Canasota today. The Raiders rallied for a 2-1 win over the Marauders two weeks ago.
