Authorities are reporting a major ammonia leak at Chobani, 669 County 25, New Berlin, which forced the yogurt maker to evacuate its entire workforce and required multiple districts to respond.
Emergency and fire personnel from the New Berlin, Edmeston and Sherburne departments are currently on the scene, as is the county’s Hazmat unit and CMT ambulance.
A small group of employees are being evaluated for possible ammonia exposure and it’s possible they will be transported to Chenango Memorial Hospital, according to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Chief Dispatcher A. Wesley Jones.
