Greene Tournament
GREENE - Greene dealt Whitney Point its first loss of the season on Friday night, 7-1, and erupted for 20 runs on Saturday in the championship game walloping Oxford, 20-4, in the fourth annual Greene Tournament.
The Blackhawks hung tight early on as Jacquelyn Heggie’s two-out three-run homer in the third moved her club within one, 4-3. Greene answered back with three of its own in the bottom half of the frame, and continued to score in every at-bat.
“I think our confidence went way up after beating (Oxford) on Thursday,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “We were aggressive on the base paths, and we executed really well.”
Taylor Ellis was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Morgan Ellis and Natalie Greene added three hits apiece.
In the consolation game, Norwich won for the sixth time this season – its most wins in at least 18 seasons – toppling Whitney Point, 8-1.
Katie Callahan had a two-run single in Norwich’s three-run fourth, and finished with three RBI. Logan Thompson drove in three runs as well, while Shannon Moore and Morgan Loucks contributed 2-for-4 days at the plate.
“Whitney Point was a good win for us,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “Everybody got some hits for us this weekend, and we were able to get the small ball going.”
Greene advanced past Whitney Point 7-1 on Friday. The Trojans (14-4) assumed the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first, and winning pitcher Rebecca Hanrahan allowed just two hits.
Caitlin Willis was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Kiley Shaff had two hits, and Taylor Ellis drove in a pair of runs.

GREENE – The third meeting was the charm for Oxford, who advanced to the finals of the Greene tournament beating Norwich Friday for the first time in three contests.
The Blackhawks opened up a 6-0 lead scoring five runs in the top of the second. The Tornado, idle the past week, committed three of their five errors during the Oxford rally, and Jessica Frank capped the uprising with a two-run single.
“We had that one bad inning, and they capitalized on it,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “That’s what a week off will do for you, you lose momentum.”
Shelby Condon was a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead NHS. Jaime Berger and Shannon Moore added single RBIs.
