Marauders pitcher Matt Smith did not strike out or walk a batter, and the S-E defense played error-free behind Smith.

Aiding Smith on offense were Mick Khoury and Carter Cole. Khoury had a two-out RBI single in the third to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead, and Carter Cole’s two-run single in the fourth provided S-E with the winning runs.

Smith finished the game retiring the final six Clinton batters in order, and the win moves S-E within one game of the Warriors in the Center State Conference Division One race. “We fielded every groundball and every flyball, that’s how good our defense was,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We did a great job fielding the ball, and this is probably my biggest coaching win, ever.”

The Marauders are now 6-2 in division play. Number nine hitter, Felix Rodriguez, and Cole had two hits.

B-G 8, Greene 3

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford’s offense broke loose for six runs in the fifth inning Thursday, and junior hurler Austin Bauerle pitched a complete-game victory in B-G’s second MAC league win of the season.

Lucas Butcher’s RBI single scored Jake Mazzarella with the go-ahead run, and Corbin Palmer followed with an RBI single as part of a six-hit inning for the Bobcats. “We were able to string some hits together, and it was probably our best game of the season,” said B-G coach Tim Mattingly. “All phases of the game kind of worked for us today.”

Palmer and Butcher each had two hits and two RBI in the win. Greene’s Nick Viglucci was a perfect 3-for-3.

Bauerle allowed just two earned runs and scattered seven hits.

Sherburne-Earlville 4, Clinton 3

CLINTON - Sherburne-Earlville scored three runs in the top of the sixth to rally past Clinton Thursday for its second win of the season.

Kayla Nelson hit a two-run single, and advanced to third on two stolen bases. Nelson came home with the winning run on a passed ball.

S-E’s defense worked out of trouble in the last two innings. Pitcher Destinie Holmquist caught a pop-up to end one threat, and the Marauders turned a double play in the final inning to close the door on Clinton.

“We’ve had some breakdowns and hiccups, but this is an excellent win for us,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker. “Tonight we put it together and played seven good innings of softball.”

Alexis Paul pitched the first four innings and Holmquist finished up with three scoreless innings to earn the victory.

Paul and Holmquist combined to strikeout four, walk one, and allow just four Clinton basehits.
