Norwich picks up 7th victory of season

Norwich 5, Windsor 4

NORWICH – Norwich won for the seventh time this season and second against Windsor as brothers Cody Barnes and Ben Barnes pitched the Tornado to victory Friday afternoon.

Dennis Oralls had two hits and two RBI for the Tornado. Oralls drove in his first run in Norwich’s four-run first, and knocked in the go-ahead run in the third to score Colby Griffin. Justin Lindenthaler had an RBI in the first inning, and Griffin along with Oralls had 2-for-3 days at the plate.

Cody Barnes used just 80 pitches in six innings, and Ben Barnes had two strikeouts and induced a flyball for the final out to earn the save. “Cody did a nice job on the mound and we got a lot out of him today,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.

Norwich is 7-3 overall and 3-3 in league play. It plays at Seton Catholic Central today.

Unadilla Valley 14, Afton 9

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley scored 11 runs in its first at-bat and went on to defeat Afton Thursday afternoon.

The Storm’s Brandon Miles was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI. Justin Hofer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Brett Smith had two hits. Kurt Haycook pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings of relief for UV to save the win for Miles.

The win improved UV’s record to 5-2 on the season.

Windsor Sword and Shield Tournament

Norwich captures Bracket B

WINDSOR – Norwich captured Bracket B of the First Annual Windsor Sword and Shield Tournament beating Oxford, 8-4, in its opening game, and following that with a 9-7 victory over Camden.

Shelby Condon was a perfect 4-4 in the second game, Jaime Berger went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and an RBI single, and Molly Moore had two hits and two runs scored. “This was awesome, and the girls were pretty excited,” said Norwich coach Scott Moore. “Last year, we won two games in one season, and Saturday we won two games in one day.”

Condon hit a solo homer in the opening inning against Oxford, and Kassidy Seary’s three-run double in the fifth unlocked a 3-3 tie in the Tornado win. Shannon Moore had two hits and two ribbies, and Seary also finished with two hits.

Jessica Frank and Jacquelyn Heggie had RBI singles in the first for Oxford, Julianne Heggie went 2-for-4, and Lacey Barry scored a pair of runs.

Oxford dropped a 12-4 final to Camden in its first game, that despite outhitting Camden, 12-7.

Camden capitalized on 16 base on balls, and pulled away with five runs in the sixth inning. Jacquelyn and Julianne Heggie each had three hits in the loss, and Meg Golden went 2-for-4.
