There’s really no way to tell how many fortune cookies I’ve opened over the years, but due to my love of all Chinese cuisine, I’m guessing it’s a four-digit number.
Among the crazy amount of cookies, I have unwrapped all manner of fortunes ranging from inspirational (“Sometimes, you don’t know what you’re looking for until you get there”) to the informative (“There are only 1,600 giant pandas left in the world”) as well as run-of-the-mill predictions (“Tomorrow may or may not be a good or bad day”) and the downright non-sensical (“Red eagle has train robbing symptoms.”) I actually did receive that last one in a cookie in Missouri.
However, this week I opened a fortune cookie that had been sitting above my computer desk since last November and received a little bit of inspiration that I thought was eerily accurate (the cookie, on the other hand, was appropriately stale and tasteless.)
The fortune said: “Enthusiasm will help you change your current situation.”
What was strange was I have been thinking the same thing for the last week. What’s truly strange is how well it worked when I tried it.
It’s such an odd concept, how can getting psyched help me get what I want? Don’t worry, I’m not going to go all Tony Robbins here, but I have to say being excited about what I wanted really helped me focus on getting those things, and before I knew it they were dropping into my lap.
