Unadilla Valley 54, Walton 52
WALTON – Unadilla Valley won its first postseason game since the 2007-2008 season Wednesday night, and beat Walton for the third time this season to advance to Section IV Class C quarterfinals.
UV (14-5) used a 12-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to erase Walton’s seven-point lead and open a five-point lead of its own. Jordan Anderson and Amanda Off each made a pair of free throws lifting the lead to 54-49 in the final minute.
“I really thought that when we were down seven, that this could be the end of the season,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “This group definitely wanted it, and all they talked about was going to Watkins Glen (UV’s next opponent). We have a lot of underclassmen, but they looked like a veteran team tonight.”
Anderson scored eight in the final quarter and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore Taylor Davis scored a game-high 19 for the Storm with Anderson netting 17 and Off tossing in 10 points.
UV plays at Watkins Glen on Saturday.

Marathon 60, Oxford 51
MARATHON – Marathon’s 6-foot-3 senior, Sam Courtney, took charge in the second half and led her club past Oxford in Wednesday’s Class C sectional playoff game.
Courtney was limited to six points in the first half before scoring eight quick points in the third quarter on her way to a 20-point half and 26 for the game. “She’s been around for a while, and I felt we did an excellent job on (Courtney) in the first half,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “I thought that if we could keep that up for four quarters, we had a good chance of winning the game.”
Oxford hit four three-pointers in the last quarter – three from Megan Golden and one from Emily Smith – to avoid a runaway fourth quarter for the Olympians. Marathon helped seal the win finishing 17-for-23 from the foul line in the second half.
Julianne Heggie led Oxford (11-8) with 13 points, while Brooke Noble and Jacquelyn Heggie added 10 apiece. “We had a great group of seniors,” Palmer said of his season. “I would take this group any year in terms of how hard they worked and how well they practiced.”

Bainbridge-Guilford 42, Tioga 41
TIOGA – B-G grabbed back one of its postseason losses from Tioga.
Shania Vandermark’s three-point play with 28 seconds left in the fourth quarter gave the Bobcats a one-point win Wednesday night in Section IV Class C sectional playoff win.
Two of the previous three seasons, Tioga eliminated B-G from postseason contention. “We just did a good job on the boards tonight,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “Our freshmen and sophomores are really trying hard, and they’re filling in spots to complement our seniors (Vandermark and Randi Conway).”
After Tioga took a 41-39 lead, Conway fed Vandermark inside, who converted the basket and free throw to give her 17 points on the night. She also grabbed 19 rebounds, while Conway finished with 14 points. Abbey Smith, a sophomore, added six points and 11 rebounds.
