Susquehanna Valley 56, Norwich 43

NORWICH – Norwich never found a comfort zone on offense, and Susquehanna Valley not only avenged a double-digit loss to the Tornado earlier this season, but halted the Purple’s four-game winning streak Friday.

“They really did a good job defensively, and we had no flow at all on offense,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett.

Norwich led by six at the first turn, but the momentum shifted over the final five minutes of the first half. Norwich’s Bryn Loomis made one of two free throws with 5:16 left in the half. That would be Norwich’s last point of the quarter.

Lindsay Haskell hit a three-pointer for SV to knot the game at 21-21, and that basket began 12-0 run that extended into the first minute and a half of the third quarter. Norwich was as close as five points in the third quarter, but failed to make any more of a dent in the Sabers’ lead.

Abigail Hogan scored 20 points for SV, who held a 22-8 advantage from the free throw line, and only allowed seven Norwich steals, its lowest total of the season. “We got an idea of what we wanted to do on offense, but by that point they had gained a lot of confidence,” Bennett said of the second half. “They played very hard and were disciplined. They came into the game with the idea that they were going to knock us off.”

Loomis led Norwich with 14 points. Hailey Dietrich, Brenna Cashman, and Jenni Borfitz all had nine points.

Oxford 50, Unadilla Valley 47

OXFORD – Oxford won its second big game this past week outlasting much-improved Unadilla Valley Friday night.

After UV's Amanda Off tied the game at 47, the Blackhawks' Brooke Noble put back her own miss for the two-point lead. Oxford's Jacquelyn Heggie stole the ball on UV's next possession, and made a single free throw after a foul for the final margin.

"The biggest thing for us is that we kept our composure when they made a run at us," said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. "This was a very good win for us."

Lacey Barry scored 16 points for Oxford, eight coming in the second quarter when the host club built a six-point halftime lead. Noble scored a season-high 12 points, and Julianne Heggie added 10 points.

UV's big three, Off (21 points), Jordan Anderson (12), and Taylor Davis (10) accounted for all but four of their team's points.

B-G 50, Greene 35

GREENE – Bainbridge-Guilford pulled down a season-high 44 rebounds, and dominated the offensive and defensive glass in a victory at Greene Friday.

Shania Vandermark had 14 points in the second half finishing with 16 points and 17 rebounds. The Bobcats, after giving up the opening basket in the third quarter, scored 14 straight points to take command of the game. "We turned it over too many times, and it became a layup line for them," said Greene coach Dave Gorton of the second half. "They just crushed on the boards, that was the biggest difference in the game."
