NORWICH – After an eight-day layoff, Norwich resumed its winning ways taking its fourth straight game and 10th in 11 outings.

After a sluggish opening eight minutes, Norwich turned up the offense in the second quarter, and finished the stanza on an 18-2 run. Bryn Loomis scored 10 of her 16 points in the second, and Jennifer Borfitz scored five including a three-point play. “We did a nice job to end the second quarter,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett. “I felt we didn’t execute as well on offense in the second half, and that was a little frustrating.”

Borfitz and Cassie Sutton chipped in with eight points apiece for the Tornado (10-2), who host Susquehanna Valley Friday night.

OTEGO – Unatego scored the first 10 points of the second half, the first four on a rare four-point play, to jettison Greene Wednesday evening.

After a Greene miss to start the second half, Casey Manzanero was fouled while taking a three. She drained the trifecta and tacked on the one-point chaser on her way to a nine-point third quarter and game-high 19 points.

“We played very poor defense, especially in the first and third quarters,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “We gave up a lot of easy baskets, and put them on the foul line too many times.”

Marissa Woodward added 11 points for Unatego.

G-MU 59, Milford 43

COPES CORNERS – Coming off back-to-back losses and a postponed game, G-MU coach Bill Hartman was not certain of what he might see from his players Wednesday.

“I thought Milford was a team on the upswing, and we were kind of going the other direction,” Hartman said. “We were pretty satisfied with tonight’s outcome.”

The Raiders had four players in double figures scoring led by DeMario Reed’s 17 points. Tim French and Galen Wind chimed in with 13 apiece, and Eddie Ray Cotton netted 10.

The Raiders swung the momentum their way from the start with a change in its defensive approach. “We haven’t started well in most games we’ve played,” Hartman said, whose club has typically come out playing a zone defense. “After two losses, we felt we had nothing to lose. We went out and played man-to-man and pressed in an effort to change tempo for ourselves.”

BROOKFIELD – Otselic Valley righted the ship in the final quarter to ease away from Brookfield in Wednesday’s Central Counties League Game.

Gideon Schena had 20 points and 17 rebounds in the victory. Mike Larkin added 16 points, and Jason Olin grabbed 13 boards.

Schena had five points in a 19-4 final quarter, while Larkin, Olin, and Brandon Huntley all had four points in a fine display of balance. “Our defensive intensity was better, and we made some better choices on offense,” said OV coach Dave Loomis of the fourth quarter. “It was a huge turnaround for us.”
