Program Helps EMT Hopefuls Get On The Job Experience

By: Julian Kappel

OXFORD – The Americorps Rural Health Service Corps is offering a program that helps members of the community who are interested in EMT training and job experience.

Heather Sherwood, a resident of Norwich, began participating in the program this past November in order gain work experience in her chosen field. The program’s only stipulation is a six-month EMT certification course.

“She’s a very bright girl and it’s great having the extra person on duty at the station,” said Fire Chief Mike Cobb.

Danielle Berchtold, director of the rural health service corps, said the program is an excellent way for young adults to participate in a learning experience while earning an educational scholarship award which can be used for either federally backed student loans or other educational expenses.
