Kevin Hopsicker, the tournament’s most valuable player, came to life on the offensive end in the last eight minutes scoring 11 of his 15 points. “Throughout the game, we kept battling back,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We didn’t shoot as well as Friday, but we kept doing what we needed to do to stay in the game.”

Justin Hofer brought UV back from a 29-18 halftime shortfall scoring 14 of his 18 points leaving the Storm within 43-41 with eight minutes to play. Brett Smith added 11 points for UV, and Hofer contributed 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

In the consolation game, the host Marauders earned a third-place showing beating Camden by eight points. Sam Caton had 13 points and eight rebounds, most of those points and rebounds coming in the first three quarters as S-E created a 43-25 bulge. “We played excellent defense for three quarters, and really shut them down with our man-to-man defense,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. “We had seven guys with at least six points. It works out well when you have that type of balanced scoring, and the other team can’t focus its defense on one guy.”

Friday, UV advanced to the championship game downing Camden, 58-55. Nate Shackelton hit a key three-pointer with about three minutes left, and Smith added a trey with one minute to go allowing UV to hold on for the win. Hofer scored 20 to lead the Storm, while Smith and Kurt Haycook chipped in with 11 apiece.

Caton’s 15 points and 15 rebounds were not enough for S-E in a 58-40 defeat to Cazenovia. Austin Jasper added 16 points for the Marauders in a losing effort.

Cazenovia’s Andrew Vogl scored 16 points, and Hopsicker netted 13 in the win.
