OXFORD – Afton won two games in a season for the first time in the program’s short history, and spoiled Oxford’s senior recognition night with a shutout victory Wednesday night.

The Crimson Knights, who beat Sidney last week, scored three goals in the second half, the first tally an “own goal,” and the last two by Ricky Parsons and Joe Shearer coming less than a minute apart.

“Afton was obviously the more confident and prepared team tonight,” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin. “As big a disappointment as it was for our kids on senior night, I’m sure this was was a great boost for Afton’s program.”

GREENE – Unatego avenged a loss to Greene from last weekend rallying to defeat the injury-depleted Trojans Wednesday afternoon.

Derek Joyce scored the tying goal in the second half, and Troy White netted the winner in sudden-victory overtime. The Trojans were missing one key starter due to illness, and top midfielder Corey Dietrich left the game early due to injury. “My hat is off to Unatego, we had some guys out of the lineup, and they were able to take advantage,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “This (the loss) is a little bit of a letdown. We wanted to keep our momentum going, but I also wanted to get out of the game without anymore injuries.”

Alex Driscoll scored in the first half for Greene (11-2), his 25th goal of the season. The Trojans face Sidney today.
