Norwich 103, Susquehanna Valley 71
NORWICH – On senior recognition night Friday, Norwich won for the fifth time in six meets this season dominating Susquehanna Valley. The win spotlighted Norwich’s overall depth advantage over the Sabers who won just three events on the night.
“I think overall, we swam pretty well,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “We’re looking forward to this Wednesday against Maine-Endwell. That will be a telltale sign to see if we are as good a team as we appear. If we can knock them off and possibly take second at sectionals, it would be the best finish we’ve had in years.”
Norwich won the first four events before the diving competition as Catherine Eaton, Erin Gawronski, and Kerstin Franklin backed up a win in the 200 medley relay with their own wins. Franklin and Gawronski added individual-event wins later in the meet, while Rachel Zieno and Ravyn Benedict added to the win column. Zieno picked up a victory in the 500 free, while Benedict claimed the 100 backstroke.
“They’re all swimming well for this time of year,” Downey said, who noted that the team as a collective is pulling heavy yardage in anticipation of the late-season taper. “We didn’t have personal-bests tonight, but I was not expecting that yet.”

Greene 2, Unatego 1
OTEGO – Greene secured its third straight MAC championship edging Unatego on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans are unbeaten against league competition this year in the one-division format, and can complete an overall unbeaten league mark later this month against Oxford. “It was a real good test for us, and we knew if we came out and played like we did against Windsor, we would be fine,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. The Trojans dominated the Windsor game despite a 1-0 loss. “Our plan was to come out and strike early, and our first goal came really quick.”
Alex Leone, who had a four-assist game in his previous outing, tallied for the Trojans just 10 minutes into the contest. Later in the half, Alex Driscoll scored his 22nd goal of the season upping the halftime lead to two.

S-E improved its record to 8-5-1 overall. It plays its next contest next week against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in a make-up game from last month. Rodriguez was unsure of the date and time of the game as of press time.

We did create some opportunities, but (Walton) finished.”
Brian Tequin scored B-G’s lone goal. The Bobcats (5-8) play at Delhi Wednesday.
