Oxford 5, Sidney 0
OXFORD – Oxford erupted for four goals in the second half, and won its third straight game to even its record (3-3-1) on the season.
Clinging to a one-goal edge, Oxford senior Jacquelyn Heggie scored 4 1/2 minutes into the half, one of three Blackhawks goals over an eight-minute span. Heggie sandwiched two goals around an Emily Smith goal to turn a close game into a blowout. Heggie finished with a hat trick, and Smith added the other two goals.
“We were playing a little bit of kickball in the first half,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “We settled down and spread out a little more in the second half. We were beating their defenders and placing our shots well.”
Oxford hosts Unadilla Valley today.

Waterville 3, S-E 2
WATERVILLE – Waterville took advantage of the opportunities S-E gave it, and pulled out a one-goal win Wednesday night.
The Marauders’ Trevor Bays scored eight minutes in, but over the next 20 minutes, Waterville tallied all three of its goals. “We tried to go up the middle too much, and left some gaps,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “Waterville countered well and made us pay.”
Bays added his second goal in the second half, and S-E had two close-range scoring opportunities in the final three minutes that were just off the mark.
The Marauders (6-3-1) host Canastota Friday.

Sidney 3, Oxford 2
OXFORD – Hard-luck Oxford dropped its sixth one-goal game of the season as Sidney hung on to beat the Blackhawks Wednesday.
The Warriors scored off a penalty kick early in the game, and benefited from an own goal to hold a 2-1 halftime lead.
Cameron Heggie and Austin Crandall had goals for Oxford. Crandall’s came on a header off a cornerkick from Ryan Moore. “The second half was one of our better offensive halves of the season, but we could only muster one goal (Crandall),” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin. “I thought sophomore Joe Nelson and freshman Treynor Peterson were huge sparkplugs for us tonight."

“They had good passing and possession, and showed why they are the number one team in the state,” said OV coach Justin Barlow. “I felt we were able to disrupt their play a little with a few offside traps that they normally would have had breakaways on.”
