Chenango Valley 1, Norwich 0

NORWICH – Chenango Valley capitalized on a rebounded shot that Norwich failed to clear, and tallied the game’s lone goal with 22 minutes remaining in the second half Thursday evening.

After Norwich goalie Julian Gillner made the initial save, a pass from Alex Auchinachie to the right side of the goal was directed in by Shane Robinson. “That was really our only defensive lapse, other than that, it was a good game for us,” said Norwich coach Steve Prime. “At the end, we were knocking on the door, and couldn’t get it in the net.”

Gillner made nine saves in the loss.

Sidney 2, Oxford 1 (OT)

SIDNEY – Hunter Sowersby’s second goal unlocked a 1-1 tie to give Sidney an overtime win over Oxford Thursdsay afternoon.

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Cameron Heggie tallied for the Blackhawks off a Ryan Moore feed. At the twenty-four minute mark of the second half, Sowersby tied the game up. "If we continue to improve like we did today, I believe this team will find a way to win games,” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin.  “But two overtime loses in one week is tough to swallow.”

Oxford held the advantage in shots on goal, and had the better of the ball possession, Champlin said. “I felt we controlled the game against a quality opponent, but they figured out a way to win,” Champlin said, who also praised his defense. “Chris Marks and Mark Martin were excellent on defense today.”
