S-E girls play 'best game of season'

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville threw a scare at Center State Conference Division II leader Sauquoit Valley Wednesday afternoon.

Nicole Burline had three doubles and went 4-for-5 for Sauquoit, who kept the runs coming in the contest to stay a step ahead of the Marauders. “We lost, but it was the best game we’ve played all season,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker. “We were relaxed at the plate and hitting the ball hard. It was fun to watch them, and not roll over after falling behind early.”

Three of S-E’s four errors came in the opening two innings, and led directly to five of SV’s eight runs.

Chelsea Beaudoin went 4-for-5 to lead S-E in hits, and Destinie Holmquist was 3-for-5 with four RBI. The Marauders finished the game with a season-high 16 basehits.

SCHENEVUS – G-MU ended the regular season upending Tri-Valley League East Division leader Schenevus in six innings Wednesday.

The Raiders (8-7) moved into the lead for good scoring four runs in the top of the fifth. Jenny Mason had an RBI sacrifice fly to tie the game, and Lauren Hill’s RBI groundout scored Miranda Hill with the go-ahead run.

The Raiders were buoyed by a big inning-ending double play as Lauren Hill snagged a line drive, and fired back to first to end the fifth frame. “We’ve been playing well and hitting well,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “Our pitching was off and we had 16 walks, but we still won.”

Alicia Sebeck went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Logan Eltz had two hits and three runs batted in.

Sauquoit Valley 12, S-E 0

SHERBURNE – Sauquoit Valley broke a scoreless tie scoring seven runs in the top of the third in Wednesday’s win over Sherburne-Earlville.

SV had seven hits in the inning and finished with 14 for the game. Steve Szatko had three hits and three RBI. Szatko also handcuffed the Marauders’ hitters allowing just one hit. He struck out 10 and walked four, while allowing just two baserunners through the first five innings. “He threw his curveball so much, adn we were just chasing it,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “It was not a good night for us.”

The Marauders (6-9) play at Ilion today.
