OXFORD – Oxford received a well-pitched game from sophomore Andrew Golden, and won its third game of the season on Thursday.

Golden went the distance striking out eight and walking two. Golden pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings until an untimely error led to Brandon Snyder’s homer that broke up the shutout.

“Andrew pitched exceptionally well and we fielded it well,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “When we’re catching it and throwing it, we’re in games. That was the case tonight.”

Oxford scored three insurance runs in the third on just one hit. Golden drew a bases-loaded walk, Ryan Moore reached on an error to score the second run, and Eric Dilfer had an RBI groundout. Jeff Lawton had an RBI in the second inning, and Moore drove in Adam Pierson with a single in the third.

OXFORD – Oxford’s Jacquelyn Heggie was in complete control on the mound Thursday night. Heggie held the Bulldogs without a hit, and her teammates supplied ample run support in a five-inning mercy rule contest.

Heggie fanned 10 and did not walk a batter facing just 19 batters in the game. The junior hurler added two doubles and three RBI, and teammate Lacey Barry had two hits, one of those a triple.

“We came out strong and we want to make sure we stayed aggressive throughout the game with Afton coming up tomorrow,” said Oxford coach Heather Pizza.
