Windsor 13, Norwich 0
WINDSOR – Norwich ran into the number one team in the state Tuesday, and came up empty on the scoreboard.
Windsor pitcher Cara Martin tossed a one-hit shutout victory striking out eight batters. Martin was aided by Emma Benson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, and Shelly Tucker who had a two hits and four RBI.
“There is a reason they are the number one team in the state,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton of Windsor. “They hit the ball well and have one heck of a pitcher.”
Norwich’s Jamie Berger had seven strikeouts in the loss, and the Norwich defense played its first error-free game this season.

Greene 15, Afton 3
AFTON – In a rematch of last year’s Midstate Athletic Conference championship game, Afton was no match for the unbeaten Trojans.
Greene racked up 18 basehits, and blew the game wide open with nine runs in the fourth inning to create a 13-0 lead.
“This was not what I expected, but I was really happy with how we hit the ball,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “I was confident we could hit the ball, and we ran the bases really aggressively. The only down thing was the four errors. I think we lost our focus late in the game.”
Brittany Youngs finished 4-for-5 with two RBI to lead Greene (4-0). Caitlin Willis chipped in with three hits and two RBI. Youngs had a two-run double in the second inning. The Trojans strung seven straight hits together in the fourth with Natalie Greene, Rebecca Hanrahan, and Taylor Ellis all driving in runs. “If we hit like we did today, we’ll be tough to beat,” Smith said.
Kate Werth had two hits for Afton.

Sauquoit Valley 9, Sherburne-Earlville 5
SAUQUOIT – One bad inning has hurt Sherburne-Earlville throughout the month of April, and the third inning Tuesday night at Sauquoit Valley doomed the Marauders’ victory hopes.
Sauquoit Valley erased a 3-0 S-E lead with nine runs. The Indians took advantage of five base on balls and one error to pile up the runs. Mikayla Clark led SV with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
“All of our games have come down to one inning, but we are playing better,” said S-E coach Michelle Parker.
Destinie Holmquist had a two-run double to lead the Marauders.

Norwich 6, Chenango Forks 1
NORWICH – Norwich won for the fourth time in five matches this season, and kept pace in the STAC Central Division one game behind front-runner Owego.
Norwich swept all four singles matches without dropping a set. At first doubles, first-time pairing Sal Cole and Billy Whaley secured the match’s decisive point winning in three sets. Rife Revoir and Akil Ruzich, moving up to second doubles, won in straight sets.
“We were missing Matt Craig today, and we had some guys step up in his place,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “It was a good win, and we have a tough match with Chenango Valley coming up.”
