G-MU 2, Greene 1
OXFORD – G-MU rallied from a one-goal deficit to repeat as champions in the Oxford Blackhawks Tournament.
After Greene’s Evan Moxley put the Trojans (7-1) up 4:11 into the second half, Greg Delaney took a through pass from Corin Todd, and he scored just 1:12 later. Todd had the winning goal off an indirect kick with 11:15 left in the game. “That was a nice set piece past our wall,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman of the winning goal. “We outshot and outpossessed them on the field, G-MU just executed a couple of plays, and we didn’t.”
Greene advanced to the finals with a 2-1 win over Oxford on Friday. Nate Patrick and Mikki Brown scored for the Trojans, who were locked in a 1-1 tie with the upstart Blackhawks. Oxford’s goal came from Jake Carr. “Oxford played very well, and their keeper (Branden McConnell) was outstanding,” Tallman said. “They wanted it more than us, and we were fortunate to pull the game out.”
In the consolation game Saturday afternoon, Oxford nipped Norwich, 1-0. Statistics were not available at press time.
G-MU advanced to the finals beating Norwich, 3-0. DeMario Reed had two goals for the Raiders in the victory.
