Oxford 9, Deposit 3

OXFORD – Derrick Head pitched six strong innings in his best outing of the season, and Oxford finished out the week with back-to-back victories.

Jamie Smolcnop and Andrew Golden were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Oxford’s first two runs in the second, and a third run was added with a walk.

Oxford built the lead to as many as eight runs scoring five runs in the fourth. Adam Pierson capped that inning lacing a two-run single. “We played really good defense tonight behind Derrick,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer, whose club raised its record to 5-10. “The difference tonight was that we were catching the ball, and our pitchers limited their walks. I have been pleased with the way we’ve play in all but two out of the last 21 innings.”

Kyle Ferrington had two runs scored for Oxford, and Head finished with six strikeouts.

Travis Cammer had three hits for Deposit.

Greene 4, Walton 1

GREENE – Greene’s early offense paid off. The Trojans took a 3-0 lead after two innings, and pulled out their 12th win this season to clinch at least a tie for the MAC Division One title.

“It was a tough game, and I was a little nervous about it because I know Walton has good athletes,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “They have a good pitcher, and their hitters hit Becca (Hanrahan) better than anyone we’ve faced.”

Louise Holcomb scored Greene’s initial run in the first with a single, and a passed ball scored the second run. In the second inning, Caitlin Willis’ single scored Rachel Turner for the three-run advantage.
