GREENE – Greene ran the basepaths virtually unfettered stealing 14 bases against the Trojans in Wednesday’s victory.

Four of the Warriors’ eight hits were of the infield variety, and six of the runs scored came after drawing walks or reaching on an infield hit.

“We were very flat from the start, and were just outhustled tonight,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “They put pressure on us with their running game, and we didn’t respond nearly as well as I hoped. It’s disappointing because we have been playing good baseball, and I know we’re better. I feel the kids will bounce back tomorrow.”

AFTON – In the first of back-to-back games with Oxford this week, Afton put a stamp on its victory Wednesday scoring nine runs in the bottom of the sixth.

In their final at-bat, the Crimson Knights put together the big inning with only three hits. They were aided by six walks, two Oxford errors, and one hit batsmen.

Adam Rupakus tossed a complete-game victory striking out eight, walking one, and allowing six Oxford hits. Rupakus was backed by error-free defense. “Everything came together today,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “We did capitalize on mistakes, but we made nice plays in the field, and Adam pitched well.”

Rupakus and Corey Mohrein paced the Afton batters with 2-for-3 days.

McGraw 19, Otselic Valley 10

MCGRAW – McGraw had a pair of eight-run innings, and benefited from 11 Otselic Valley errors to pick up a Central Counties division win on Wednesday.

Austin Chambers went 3-for-4 with three RBI on the McGraw side. “It was just a terrible day in the field for us,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We just couldn’t make plays. If we could have made some, it would have been a decent game.”

Cameron Mikula was 3-for-4 on the Vikes’ side, and Chase Marston doubled driving in three runs in a losing effort.

Seton Catholic Central 12, Norwich 5

NORWICH – Alex Leuci hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning for Seton Catholic Central, who pulled away from the Tornado in the final three innings Wednesday.

Leuci scored three runs as well, and Chloe Jones scored three times for the Saints.

Norwich rallied for three runs in the last of the seventh. Skye Ingraham hit a solo home run, and Katrina McMinn finished a 2-for-3 day with a two-run single. The game ended abruptly when Seton pulled off a triple play. Loughlin caught a short pop up in front of the pitching circle, she fired to the first baseman to double off one Norwich runner, and the third out came when the runner on second base was unable to get back to the bag safely.

“Our girls were running on the play, and they thought the ball dropped,” said Norwich coach Dennis Eaton of the play. “I can’t hold that against anybody.”

Rhea French also had two hits for Norwich, who play at Windsor Friday.
