Mt. Markham 6, S-E 5
WEST WINFIELD – Sherburne-Earlville scored two runs in the seventh to force extra innings, but came up on the short side in an eight-inning loss to Mount Markham Thursday.
S-E rallied in the seventh as Mike Wilson and Cory Musician reached base safely. Mike Squires’ RBI groundout cut the margin to 5-4, and Musician came around to score on a dropped third strike.
In the eighth, S-E recorded just one out before a Mustangs single to right field with two runners in scoring position ended the game.
“There was a slight glimmer of S-E baseball for about three or four innings where we played really well,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We just had three or four costly mistakes.”
Matt Piazzi had two hits – both doubles – and one RBI for S-E, and Musician scored two runs.

Deposit 6, Oxford 4
DEPOSIT – The margin of error was slim for Oxford on Thursday, who fell in a road game with Deposit on Thursday.
Deposit broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. One of Oxford’s two errors in the game followed up a walk, and Evan Thomas’ single scored the go-ahead run. Tanner Sexton followed that with a two-run single.
“We played fairly well, we just had one too many errors and one too many walks,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “These things were just untimely, and just enough to make you lose a 6-4 game.”
Krys Escobar had a two-run single in the second for Oxford, and Andrew Pier’s follow-up RBI single gave the Blackhawks a one-run lead early on.
