GREENE – Greene passed another difficult test winning its first division game of the season, while improving to 5-0 on the season Friday.

Facing a Sidney team that already has wins over Afton and Oxford, Greene chipped away with single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. “When we came in for the fourth inning, I told the girls that this is around the time we tend to pick up our offense,” said Greene coach Rick Smith. “I think it’s a confidence thing facing the pitcher a second and third time.”

Errors led to Greene’s runs in the fourth and fifth, and Maureen McDermott had a key insurance RBI with a fielder’s choice in the sixth.

Those tallies were plenty enough for sophomore flamethrower Rebecca Hanrahan. Hanrahan, who had 15 total whiffs in the previous two games, fanned 15 and walked just two against a pesky Sidney offense.

“She was able to get the strikeouts today, and she did a good job mixing things up,” Smith said of Hanrahan. “I don’t know what will happen the rest of the season, but it is good to see (the team) perform so well.”

The Trojans play at Unadilla Valley Monday.

BINGHAMTON – Similar to its first outing, Norwich gave up some early offense to the opposition, and was unable to put a run on the board on its end losing by shutout to the Saints on Friday.

Ellen Loughlin allowed just three Norwich hits striking out seven and walking just one. Loughlin received all the offensive support she would need from her battery mate, Samantha Stento. Stento homered for SCC, who scored two in the second and four more in the third to build a half-dozen run lead.

Norwich pitcher Jamie Berger improved over her first outing striking out six and walking just two.
