Sidney 7, Afton 1
AFTON – Playing on Afton’s field due to unplayable conditions on own home diamond, Sidney adapted quickly as the “home” team on the Knights’ field, and won going away in its season opener Thursday.
Tanner Westcott had a go-ahead two-run single in the fourth for Sidney, and Westcott singled in two more runs during a five-run sixth to polish off a 3-for-3 day.
Kevin Davie struck out eight and allowed one run in five innings for the win, and Andy Kozak had four strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief. “For our first time on an actual baseball field this season, I was pretty happy,” said Sidney coach Kyle Vibbard. “We hit the ball hard at times, and play good defense. This early in the year, we’re just happy to be outside.”
Adam Rupakus allowed two runs in five innings for Afton to take the loss.
