Flood Warning Information Now Available Online

NORWICH – The City of Norwich Emergency Management Office today announced the availability of on-line access to its river and stream gauge information.

“In conjunction with the National Weather Service, we are pleased to make this information available to the public,” said City Emergency Management Director A. Wesley Jones. “Since the gauges were installed in 2008, our goal has been to get the data out on the internet.”

Currently the city maintains stream gauges on the Canasawacta Creek in Norwich and South Plymouth, and on the Chenango River in Norwich. In addition, there are precipitation gauges on two units in Norwich and South Plymouth.

The National Weather Service recently added the Automated Flood Warning System (AFWS) website where the real-time data is posted. The site is located at:

http://afws.erh.noaa.gov

Once there, users can click on New York State and then Chenango County to view the data.
