Laurens 43, G-MU 35
COPES CORNERS – Matt Struckle, a key component in Laurens’ Tri-Valley League title last year, keyed his team’s late-game surge in a win over G-MU (6-11) Friday night.
After the Raiders’ Jon Scofield put back a layup to close the margin to one point, it was all Laurens and Struckle. Struckle had back-to-back steals after G-MU miscues. He converted the first into a layup, and drew a foul and made two free throws on the latter. Struckle was 5-for-6 from the foul line in the last quarter.
“We lost all kinds of offensive rhythm at the end of the game and were not able to score,” said G-MU coach Bill Hartman, “and we were in chase mode the rest of the way.”
Laurens was also one of the few teams this season to find success against G-MU’s interior defense. Forward Jesse Tilley led the Laurens attack with 17 points.
Andrew Delmar led G-MU with 15.
