Oxford 43, Walton 38
WALTON – Oxford held Walton scoreless in the third period to stretch its lead to 11 points, and senior Alyshia Crawford made 7-of-10 foul shots in the fourth quarter – four in the last minute, to seal Tuesday’s opening win.
Walton kept pace in the first half behind three treys and 11 points from Holly Reynolds. Reynolds was blanked in the second half as Julie Heggie and Kelli Whitehill teamed up to slow down Reynolds.
Jackie Heggie scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Oxford, while Haley Witchella added 13 points, and Crawford nine.
“It really was hard-nosed defense that did it for us in the third quarter,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “Walton is probably a top-three team in its division. This is a big win for us.”

Deposit 31, Unadilla Valley 29
NEW BERLIN – Deposit overcame a dismal start to rally in the fourth quarter and beat Unadilla Valley Tuesday night.
UV dominated the opening quarter creating a 14-3 lead with efficient offense and a full-court press that turned the Lumberjacks over multiple times.
Amber Potter scored six of her 13 points in the first quarter, and Jordan Andersen added four. The UV offense began to slump in the second quarter when Deposit moved from man-to-man to a zone defense. At one point, the Storm had back-to-back 30-second shot clock violations.
Still, UV led by six entering the last quarter. Tiffany Raymond helped bring back Deposit with two three-pointers, and Melissa Martin made 1-of-2 free throws with 11 seconds left giving her team a 30-29 lead. Chelsea Russell grabbed an offensive rebound after Martin’s missed free throw, and added one more free throw. “In the second half we had to take off the press,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “They stopped turning it over, and we turned it over too much.”
UV finished with 13 turnovers in the second half and scored just nine points after the break.
