OXFORD – This Thanksgiving weekend, it’s family, food and togetherness, but what to do when you need to go out? Look no further, 6 On The Square (6OTS) in Oxford has both local shopping and feel-good music this weekend.
On Friday, right after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, 6OTS will open their “Holiday Shoppe” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year they’ve expanded the number of local artists and craftspeople for you to choose from. There are hand crafted gifts for everyone on your list: wooden toys, goats milk soaps, coffees, knitted scarves and tams, hand dyed yarns, pottery, gemstone jewelry, special dolls and ornaments to delight all ages! There’s something for every taste and budget; even free gift wrapping for your purchases! If you’re not sure what to buy, -they offer gift certificates- treat your friends and family to upcoming shows! The Holiday Shoppe will be open during performances and Saturdays and Sundays thru Dec. 20.
That Friday evening, 6OTS welcomes the Woodshed Prophets who will perform at 7:30 p.m. This local favorite will help you kick off the Holiday season with their high energy, rock your socks off, get up and dance music! Formed in 2008 when some members of Fetish Lane got together with some members of The Dirt Band, and then they added in a few more friends. Although it’s an ever changing line up of musicians, The Woodshed Prophets are: Ed Gliha on bass, Rob Stachyra on acoustic guitar and mandolin, Dan Hardy on the tele, John Edick on percussion and guitar, and Larry Riccardi on drums. As the friends came and went they decided they really liked the sound of the band, and they’ve been playing together ever since. Tight harmonies, melodies that linger, and all backed by a driving percussion. Purchase tickets on-line until the date of the performance for $12; or $15 at the door.
On Saturday night, Nov. 28th, it’s the Teen Battle of the Bands! Each band will have 30 minutes to play; once all bands have performed, the audience will decide the winner by applauding for their favorite, and that band will receive a cash prize! Tickets are just $5.
