The Ugly Truth - Receiving advice from someone is always helpful but when the person giving the advice gives you things you don’t really want to hear, is it possible that they may be right? Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy) stars as Abby Richter. Abby has been the producer of a morning show but the ratings haven’t been so great. Neither has Abby’s love life. So late one night she runs across a self help show called “The Ugly Truth.” Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler) imparts the knowledge he has gotten over the years of dating but his methods come into question when Abby gives him a call and Mike’s advice isn’t exactly a hit with her. However, the station that Abby works for has decided Mike is just the thing they need to make up their ratings and now Abby has to work with him. When they meet, the sparks fly almost literally. Abby even has a guy she has her eye on and asks Mike for his help. Will Abby get together with him or will Abby and Mike discover a little truth between them? Butler can currently be seen in theaters with Jamie Foxx in the suspense thriller “Law Abiding Citizen.”
Up - It’s said that there are things in life you can do that are never too late. In this animated adventure, Carl (Ed Asner) has been living alone for awhile and always wanted to go see the world. He gets his chance when he rigs thousands of balloons into his house and flies it to parts unknown. Little does Carl know he has company in the form of Russell (Jordan Negai). Russell is a wilderness ranger trying to earn some new badges. Carl doesn’t know Russell is around until he takes off. A flying house isn’t exactly something you can control easily. So they fly for a bit and when they land, they meet some interesting characters. Eventually, they take off again and are being followed by some evil guys who want the secret of the flying house. Can Carl and Russell get back home and keep the bad guys from the back door? Another fun movie on the way from Pixar is “Toy Story 3” with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen back as Woody and Buzz Lightyear set for release next Summer.
