UV posts shutout win over NHS

Unadilla Valley 1, Norwich 0

NORWICH – Unadilla Valley broke the scoreless tie with 15 minutes left in regulation, and posted a non-league shutout victory on the Tornado’s field turf Monday night.

Katelynn Fagan made a crossing pass from the right corner to the far side of the goal, and Amanda Tumilowicz guided the ball inside the post for the winner.

“It was evenly matched and back and forth the whole game,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton, whose club finishes the season 2-14 overall.

Norwich keeper Tatyana Ithier made three saves including a diving kick save late in the first half that kept the tie score intact.

UV keeper Kara Collins earned the shutout.

Oxford 10, B-G 0

BAINBRIDGE – Saturday, the Blackhawks received three of their goals from first-time goal scorers, and racked up a team-record 10 goals to even their MAC seasonal log.

Emily Smith had her first two goals of the season, and Alasa Maynard added her first varsity goal. Teresa Morrison, who had one goal coming into the game, added two goals as well.

“The first time we played (B-G), it went into overtime,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “We put a lot balls up there, and we were just finding the net.”

Kelli Whitehill added two goals for Oxford (6-6-1, 6-8-1), who can match a team record for wins in a season with a victory over Unadilla Valley later this week.

GREENE – Greene halted a slide of recent losses beating B-G on Monday night.

Liz Wentlent, the Trojans’ leading scorer, broke a scoreless tie with 26:50 left in the second half. After settling the ball in the left corner, Wentlent moved toward the middle beating two Bobcats’ defenders, and nailing a hard shot from a sharp angle inside the right corner.

“In terms of opportunities, we had a couple more chances, but only one went into the net,” said Greene coach Brandy Stone.

Emily Pierce made two saves for Greene (4-10-2).

Boys’ Soccer

Otselic Valley 6, Tyburn Academy 0

SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley (9-5) scored four goals in the opening half, and received a career game from D.J. Worden to shut out Tyburn Academy for the second time this season.

Worden scored four goals for the Vikings, and Dusty Davis had the other two goals. “We controlled the whole game, and seemed like all of our shots found the net,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We could have used some these goals last Friday, but that’s the way soccer is.”

OV hosts George Jr. Republic on Wednesday.

Waterville 2, S-E 1

SHERBURNE – Waterville, who blanked S-E by three goals earlier this season, survived a stern test from the Marauders to pull out a one-goal win on Monday night.

Mike Purcell, who had Waterville’s first goal, scored the winner with 6:59 to play. Purcell beat two S-E defenders before slipping the ball past the Marauders’ keeper.

“It was a great game going back and forth, and very entertaining to watch,” said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. “Tonight we were right in it from the start of the game to the finish.”

S-E (4-11-1), down a goal at the half, tied the game at the 20:09 mark when freshman Carter Cole fed Eric Muth for the tally.
