Marauders Spread Out Scoring

CANASTOTA – Five different Sherburne-Earlville players found the net on Monday against Canastota, and the Marauders were able to stretch their winning streak to three games.

The win nudged S-E to one victory from evening its Center State Conference league mark. Overall S-E is 4-8-1, but 4-5-1 in CSC play.

Eric Muth, Alec Shedden, Kerry VanAlthuis, Oria Bays, and Brian Palmer were all credited with goals in the win.

NORWICH – Owego played up to its number two state ranking among Class B schools, especially in the second half where it tacked on five goals in a win over Norwich Monday.

Michael Spadine and Camden Bushen each had hat tricks for the Indians.

Norwich’s David Layman had 10 saves, and came out of the goal in the second half to score Norwich’s lone tally getting an assist from Jason Woodard.

Girls’ Tennis

Norwich 7, Johnson City 0

JOHNSON CITY – Norwich set the stage for a top-two finish at next week’s sectional tennis tournament blanking Johnson City last week.

It was the seventh win for the Tornado netters, who improved by one victory over last year, and finished with a 7-4 overall record.

“I think we still have unfinished business at sectionals,” said Norwich coach John Stewart. “We feel we’re one of the top three teams in the section, and I hope we can prove that we are next week.”

Bryn Loomis and Sophie Stewart will play doubles for Norwich at sectionals as will Emily Stewart and Katie Orioli. Reva Seager and Jessica Lerner are entered as singles players.

The Section IV, Class B Tournament is slated Thursday, Oct. 15 at Owego High School

NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley swept the two doubles matches to win its third match of the season on Monday.

Amber Potter and Hannah Benson at first singles, and Carly Beadly along with Abby Grace each allowed just one total game to win in straight sets.

UV (3-6) hosts Greene today.

GREENE – Greene’s lone victory against Sidney (9-1) Monday was at first singles as Mara Duenas outlasted Ariel Zimmer in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Sidney won two of its matches in three sets, likely the difference in the match.
