Jeffrey Easily Wins GOP Primary

By: Michael McGuire

NORWICH – One-term incumbent Robert M. Jeffrey defeated challenger Daniel J. Palmer by a wide margin in Tuesday’s Republican primary, 94-15, for the city’s 6th Ward.

“I’d like to thank the Republicans in the City of Norwich’s 6th Ward for taking time out of their busy day,” Jeffrey, a resident of 17 York St., said this morning. “I appreciate their support and am honored to be the Republican candidate.”

Of a possible 325 voters in the ward, 109 turned out.

Palmer, who also petitioned as an Independent, says he plans to run again in November’s general election.

“I do plan to run again,” he said. “I’m going to try to clear up some of the misconceptions.”

Jeffrey says he still has work to do.

“I still plan on getting out and meeting all the voters in the 6th Ward,” said Jeffrey, who’s been a strong advocate for tougher absentee landlord regulations and urban renewal. “I still have a lot of hard work getting ready for the next election.”
