GILBERTSVILLE – Morris capitalized on three G-MU defensive mistakes, all three mistakes led to Justin Utter goals in the Mustangs’ shutout victory Tuesday.

Utter picked up a rebound off a missed shot, and scored his first goal at 35:20. The next two goals came when Utter ran onto a loose ball insde the G-MU 18, beat a Raiders defender one-on-one, and scored past G-MU keeper Andrew Delmar. Utter completed his hat trick after a cornerkick. Utter gathered a loose ball when G-MU failed to clear the ball out of its defensive zone, and tucked the ball away.

“We had a few mistakes on our part, and they capitalized,” said Raiders coach Mark Luettger. “The good thing is that we were still playing hard and (our team) didn’t give up. That’s always a positive.”

G-MU (1-1) plays Friday in the Oxford tournament.

OXFORD – Oxford’s offense failed to score for the second time in as many games, and Walton pulled away with three goals in the second half.

Shelby Gelsinar, Nikki Stulligross, and Erin Butler had second-half goals for the Warriors, who held an 18-2 shots-on-goal advantage.

“I thought we played a lot better, especially in the first half,” said Oxford coach Missy Chrystie. “Our defense played well, but you’re bound to let a few in when you have so much pressure on your defense.”

Alyshia Crawford made 13 saves for Oxford, and prevented further damage on the scoreboard stuffing three Walton breakaway attempts.

The Blackhawks host Delhi Thursday.

GREENE – Greene opened defense of its Section IV title with a flurry of offense.

Veterans Andrea Day and Erin Smith opened with goals for the Trojans, and later on freshmen Emma Anderson and Jahna Driscoll tacked on two goals apiece.

“Our kids really played well,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “We wanted to get our passing game going, and we worked on that.”

Christine Conroe and Smith finished with two goals for Greene (1-0), who play Section III’s Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the S-E Tournament.

Maine-Endwell 2, Norwich 0

NORWICH – Maine-Endwell solved a stingy Norwich defense in the second half getting a pair of goals from Caitlyn Cook Tuesday afternoon.

Cook scored 10 minutes into the second half getting a through ball from Keggan Griffith. Later on, Cook picked up a rebound after a missed shot, and scored unassisted.

“With the exception of the Johnson City game, we were in it for 50 or 55 minutes, but our endurance was lacking,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “Everybody is finally healthy, and we finally had more than two substitutes. Maine-Endwell did dominate most of this game, but we played good, scrappy defense, and they didn’t get a lot of quality shots.”

Norwich (0-4) plays in the Oxford Tournament Friday and Saturday.

DELHI – Delhi ended Greene’s season in the playoffs last fall, and it handed the Trojans their first loss in 2009 winning by shutout Tuesday.
