HORSEHEADS – A man who has worked tirelessly for his town for much of the last two decades has received special recognition from the State of New York for the many accomplishments and contributions he has made throughout his career.
“It is a well deserved award,” said Guilford Deputy Supervisor Bruce Winsor, of the citation from the New York State Assembly which was presented to Guilford Town Supervisor Al Doyle on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The document, which was read before the legislative body on July 29, cited Doyle’s years of service to the Town of Guilford as both town justice and supervisor; his service to Chenango County for his role with the Board of Supervisors and as chair of the Public Safety and Rules committee; and his “distinguished” career with the New York State Public Schools Athletic Association.
“It is the sense of this Assembled Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend these individuals for the edification and emulation of others,” stated the citation, which was signed by Assemblyman Clifford Crouch.
Crouch represents New York’s 107th Assembly District, of which the Town of Guilford is a part.
The citation was presented to Doyle by Chenango County Planning Director Donna M. Jones on August 8, stating that throughout his years of service he “has been a great inspiration to many, a mentor and has made numerous contributions to the lives of many in the town of Guilford and Chenango County.”
After a three year battle with lung cancer, Doyle learned in June that the cancer had returned. Since that time, he has been receiving care at a skilled nursing facility in Horseheads, near the home of his daughter, Kathy Miller.
