Cincinnatus 6, Otselic Valley 5

SOUTH OTSELIC – Cincinnatus scored two runs in the top of the seventh to edge past OV Tuesday, the second straight contest the Vikes gave up the lead in the final inning.

Jacob Silverstein had the tying RBI basehit for the Red Lions in the seventh, and Tyler Kemak drove in the game-winner.

Down to the Vikings through four innings, Cincy jumped into the lead with a four-run fifth. OV committed three errors, and the visiting club added three hits to score its runs. “The damage to us really came in the fifth inning,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “Cincinnatus has struggled for a few years, but it was a really good game for them and they deserved the win.”

Oxford 6, Unadilla Valley 2

NEW BERLIN – Oxford took the lead with three runs in the second inning, and pitcher Jackie Heggie finished the game with six straight scoreless innings.

Jackie Heggie plated Allie Nelson with the first run in the second to tie the game, and Julie Heggie added a two-run single later in the frame.

UV took a 2-1 lead in the first as Hannah Benson and Charlee Weidman had RBI hits.

Oxford finished with no errors in the game, and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh unscathed. “I would have to think this is one of Oxford’s better defensive games,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “Whenever we had runners on base, they also seemed to get the lead runner (out). We had good opportunities to score, but just didn’t come up with the big hit.”

Nelson had two hits and two runs scored for Oxford. Jackie Heggie and Alyshia Crawford finished with two hits as well.

Megan Record had two doubles among her three hits and drove in two runs. Morgan Red added a two-run single in the fourth inning upping the lead to 7-0.

“We’ve had some major injuries this year, but we’ve brought up some kids to fill in, and they have stepped up their play,” said S-E coach Scott Fitzpatrick.

Grace Dunshee, a freshman call-up to varsity last week, had two hits and one RBI. Brenda Hoefler and Lindsay Hodges also collected two hits apiece.

Hodges pitched 4 1-3 innings of no-hit ball and finished with a six-hitter striking out 10 and walking none.

S-E improved to 9-6 overall.
