Greene 13, Walton 11
WALTON – Dave Fors completed a monster day at the plate with a two-run single in the top of the eighth, the margin of victory in Greene’s road victory Friday.
Fors finished 4-for-5 adding a double and a triple and eight RBI. It was the most runs driven in by a single player in one game in head coach Dave Gorton’s tenure at Greene.
The Trojans preserved a tie game in the seventh inning with a perfect relay throw to nab Walton’s Bryant Mead at the plate.
The Warriors had already scored four runs in the inning to tie the game, and Chad Gardepe doubled with Mead on first base. Fors retrieved the ball from the outfield, fired to shortstop Scott Gorton, who relayed a strike to catcher Dan Carlin, who tagged out a sliding Mead. “We executed the relays perfectly, and it was a beautiful play, especially given the situation,” Dave Gorton said.
Paul King pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the victory. “We’ve had a difficult time winning over there,” Gorton said. “They have a lot of good hitters and their crowd is vocal.”
Braeden Williams went 3-for-3 in the win with three runs and two RBI, and Carlin had two hits and four runs scored.
