“We wanted to pressure the ball in the fourth quarter, and we weren’t worried about fouls,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter. “We did a good job in the last three minutes, but I guess we started too late.”

Windsor hurt Norwich on the offensive boards, while also forcing 17 turnovers. Buchert, Windsor’s leading scorer, had 19 points in the game – eight from the foul line. “We keyed on (Buchert) the whole game,” Porter said. “When you take a chance like that, sometimes you leave people open.”

Elisha Eddy had nine points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Norwich (9-11). Adrienne Sharpe added nine points, and Hannah Runyon finished with eight points, six rebounds, and four assists.

OXFORD – Oxford is heading toward postseason play as one of the hottest teams in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

The Blackhawks defeated B-G for the first time in over three years, and finished a 5-0 run in return meetings against division opponents.

“We haven’t beaten B-G in a while, and from that standpoint it was a big win,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “We said early in the season that we didn’t want to be at our best around Christmas, but around Valentine’s Day.”

Kelli Whitehill made 2-of-4 foul shots in the last minute to wrap up the Blackhawks’ win, while also pushing Oxford over .500 (10-9) for the first time this season. Before the turn of the new year, Oxford sported a 2-6 record. “We’ve come a long way mentally, and we’re guarding who we’re supposed to guard,” Palmer said.

B-G’s Dani Conway, Chenango County’s leading scorer at over 20 points per game, finished with just five against the Blackhawks. Most of the game she was checked by Oxford senior Danielle Murphy, who is more than six inches shorter than Conway. “If they tried to post Conway up, we did a good job of double-teaming,” Palmer said.

B-G was limited to just one field goal in the first half – on a Chelsi Roaa putback – and had just six field goals for the game.

Alyshia Crawford scored 11 points and had six steals for Oxford. Haley Witchella grabbed 12 rebounds.

REMSEN – New York State Division II shot put champion, Rachel Roberts, had too much muscle for the Vikings in leading Remsen to a win Saturday.

Roberts scored 14 of her 23 points in an 18-6 third quarter to help open an eight-point lead. At the half, OV clung to a 15-11 lead.

“We tried to take the ball at (Roberts) and get her in foul trouble, and that didn’t work out,” said OV coach Ron Graham. “Roberts would turn, shoot, and go after the ball if she didn’t make it. We tried to box out, but she was too strong.”

Heather Eaton led OV (4-14) with 11 points.
