The Marauders forced overtime on Karli Harris’ fourth-quarter buzzer beater. Tied at 56 apiece after one extra period, the Marauders jumped out to a four-point lead, and Megan Record’s 3-for-4 foul shooting wrapped up the win.

“I’m proud of the way we played, and we didn’t panic,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan of the fourth quarter. “We didn’t have any timeouts, but we kept our composure, and Karli hit a big-time shot.”

Jena Young made the first of two free throws for Waterville to make it 46-44, and after missing the second freebie, Alexandra Hughes put back the miss making it 48-44 with 11 seconds left.

S-E’s Caitlynn Adams made one foul shot with six seconds left, and S-E forced a held ball with five seconds remaining after Adams missed her second attempt. “Fortunately, the possession arrow was going our way at the end,” Mulligan said. “It was an outstanding game, and both teams’ players were making great plays under pressure.”

Bridget Irwin finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Brenda Hoefler added 12 points, and scored seven of S-E’s first nine points in the fourth quarter to help erase a five-point deficit. Adams scored 11 to go with six steals, and Harris racked up 10 points.

The Marauders host Cooperstown tonight.

Walton 49, Unadilla Valley 40

WALTON – Walton pulled away from UV in the final minute scoring the last seven points in Friday’s battle.

The Storm, who have lost five straight games, drew to within 42-40 on Emily Sugar’s two foul shots.

Morgan Benson was 4-for-5 at the foul line for Walton, who were shooting two foul shots after every UV foul most of the fourth quarter. The Warriors’ foul shooting proficiency in the second half (11-for-21) was not stellar, but through attrition, those points were enough. “What mattered was that they made their foul shots at the end,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “We had some good looks at threes, but they didn’t fall and we had to foul.”

Amanda Button keyed UV’s fourth-quarter rally with six of her 11 points. Hannah Johnson also finished with 11 points.
