Cross Country

SHERBURNE – Local runners dominated the individual honors, while Oriskany walked away with team titles in boys and girls at the 26th Annual S-E Invitational cross country meet Saturday afternoon.

The Marauders girls, who last laid claim to the top individual spot in 2004, went one-two with Jasmine Huff nipping teammate Sofeia Eddy by less than a second. Huff finished the 3.1-mile course in 22:01.08 and Eddy timed a 22:01.89. “Jasmine felt strong Saturday. She and Sofeia have battled it out, and it’s a friendly rivalry in my opinion,” said S-E co-head coach Anne Geary. It was good for the program.”

Girls’ Swimming

Norwich 98, Johnson City 87

NORWICH – Competing at home Friday night, Norwich was able to clinch its victory over Johnson City winning the 400-yard freestyle relay, the final event of the night.

Savanna Keator, who was on two winning relays, totaled four victories on the day adding individual firsts in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Makenzie Williams matched Keator teaming on two winning relays, while capturing the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. “It was within five points going into the last realy, and the girls knew they would have to work hard throughout each race and finish strong,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “It took a combined effort to beat (Johnson City).”

Adding strong swims in the victory were Krissy Stroh, who dropped 12 seconds off her best time to finish second in the 200 freestyle behind Williams. Taylor Zieno broke the 29-second mark in the 50 free (28.76) to add depth points. “It feels good to get another win,” Downey said, whose club is now 3-3 overall. “I hope we can pick up a few more as the season draws to a close.”
