Norwich 95, Whitney Point 74

NORWICH – Senior Savanna Keator crept up closer to the 200-yard freestyle record, and Norwich eased past Whitney Point for its second meet win of the season Tuesday.

Keator fell just eight hundreths of a second short off the school mark winning the 200 in 2:03.24. She also won the 100-yard freestyle, and teammates Makenzie Williams, Haley Chwazik-Gee, and Lauren Fitch had victories. “The girls swam really well, and we put them into different events to see their time,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “We’ve been pushing Savanna really hard in the 200, and she wants that record really bad.”

Williams captured the 200 individual medley, Fitch the one-meter diving competition, and Gee grabbed a win in the 100 breaststroke. Norwich (2-1) is at Sus Valley Friday.

GREENE – Three Greene swimmers picked up their first varsity wins, and the Trojans evened their season record at 2-2 with a win over MAC foe Afton/B-G/Oxford/Harpursville.

Alison Norton and Rachel Paukett participated on winning relays for the first time, and Seana Farrow captured the 500-yard freestyle. “Each one of athletes puts in the same amount of yardage, and they should have the opportunity to swim in the pressure events,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “This gives them a chance to prove themselves.”

Greene’s staples at the top, Helen Zaengle, Emily Dunckle, Katie Crowe, Leah Kazalski, and Katie Crowe also had wins.

Greene (2-1, 2-2) is at improved Sherburne-Earlville Tuesday.

Colin Bigart scored CV’s initial goal, one of four different players to find the Norwich net.

Greene 3, Oxford 0

GREENE – Greene scored all of its goals over the final 19 minutes to defeat a dangerous Oxford club on Tuesday. “They scare the heck out of me, and their forwards (Haley Witchella and Amanda Brown) are so fast,” said Greene coach Randy smith. “That’s a competent team.”

Liz Wentlent scored the first of her two goals after a Megan McDermott cornerkick at 19 minutes, then headed in another McDermott corner with five minutes left. McDermott completed the scoring with 2 1/2 minutes remaining.

“We concentrated on limiting their offensive opportunities, and the defensive play of Amanda Weeks and Chelsea Pornbeck on Witchella and Brown was huge the whole game,” Smith said.

Greene (3-1-1, 3-3-1) is at Unatego Thursday.

Summary

(0-0 at half)

Goals-assists: (G) Liz Wentlent, 2-0, Megan McDermott, 1-2.
