Unadilla Valley 2, Greene 2 (OT)
NEW BERLIN – After 80 minutes of scoreless action, the fireworks began in overtime, particularly the second 10-minute extra period.
Unadilla Valley netted the first overtime goal, but needed to regroup after back-to-back Greene tallies to forge a tie. “Our kids responded and came back,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. “I give them a lot of credit.”
UV broke the ice 3:24 into the opening overtime when, Amanda Peek netted the first of her two goals after an Amanda Tumilowicz pass.
Megan McDermott, the Trojans’ high-scoring forward, tied the game early in the second overtime, and put her club ahead just 2:24 into the period.
UV’s Peek notched the game-tying tally just 46 seconds later at 3:10 getting an assist from Kate Fagan. “It was a total team effort and our forward line had a lot of good opportunities,” Bieniek said. “Hannah Johnson contained McDermott most of the game, and Emily (Sugar) made a nice diving save at the end.”
