“Sidney can hit the ball and they play sound defense,” said Norwich coach John Martinson. “It was a rollercoaster of a game.”

Norwich took the lead for good with the five spot in the pivotal fifth. An outfield error on Richie Bonney’s flyball to right field scored a pair of runs to break a tie, and Josh Borfitz added an RBI double.

Tim Clark and Borfitz went 2-for-3, and Tyler Saroka was 2-for-4 in the win. “I am really pleased with the last two nights,” Martinson said. “We have played with a lot of fortitude and resiliency.”

EDMESTON – Matt Laymon struck out 17 G-MU batters including nine in a row at one point in the middle innings to lead the Panthers Thursday.

Jason Ruffles keyed a four-run fifth for Edmeston with a two-run single on the heels of a two-run infield error to move a one-run lead to 8-3. “Laymon is good, we just didn’t put the bat on the ball enough,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “They made seven errors, so we might have been better off if we were able to put the ball in play.”

BROOKFIELD – Brookfield dealt OV its second loss in as many days getting a timely hit from Brandon Davies in the sixth inning.

Davies tripled and drove in two runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. “We played a little sluggish today, and it looked like our fourth game in four days,” said OV coach Dave Loomis, whose club split its four games this week.

Corey Cowen was 4-for-4 to lead the Beavers, while also pitching four scoreless innings.

Chris Olin had two hits and an RBI for the Vikings, and Brian Graham added an RBI.

Hancock 14, Greene 9

GREENE – Hancock kept the Trojans winless on the season holding the host team scoreless the final three innings to pull away for the win.

John Marino homered in the first inning, the lone earned run for Hancock over the first three innings. “We’re making more plays, but we’re not making all of the plays and we’re not making the easy plays I know we can make,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton. “It was the best we have hit the ball this season, and I was encouraged by a number of things.”

Scott Gorton was 4-for-4 with three runs, while Dan Carlin and Dave Fors had 3-for-4 days at the plate for Greene.

Kathmann pitched a two-hit shutout striking out eight, and he added two hits and two RBI including a solo home run in the first inning. “We were able to put the ball in play, but they made the plays behind (Kathmann),” said UV coach Tom Locke. “We only had one guy reach second base all day.”

EDMESTON – Edmeston’s strong lineup – offensively and defensively – contained G-MU in a Tri-Valley League romp Thursday.

Megan Lawrence and Juli Vibbard had two RBI apiece for the winners, and Suzanna Johnson led with three hits. “They’re a powerful club,” said G-MU coach Tina Cole. “We were able to put the ball in play, but every ball they made the play defensively.”
