Greene 39, Oxford 20
OXFORD – Greene picked up where Oxford left off last the previous weekend at the Norwich Pennysaver Tournament.
The Trojans, who gave up a 10-point second-half lead a week ago to a furiously rallying Blackhawks club, started hot in the first quarter and never gave up its big lead to avenge that loss Saturday. “We had a great first quarter,” said Greene coach Bill Case. “We had them up-tempoed and were able to get up and down the court. They have such a good defensive club, but we were much more aggressive.”
The Trojans also dominated the glass outrebounding Oxford 43-13. Lizzy Buhl and Megan McDermott grabbed 10 rebounds apiece, while Barb Borst scored 11 points to pace a balanced offense. “I thought we did a fairly good job in our halfcourt defense, but we never really got into a flow on offense,” said Oxford coach Brad aldrich. “We thought they might come out with a lot of adrenaline in the first quarter after last weekend, and that’s what they did. If you don’t come to play with your ‘A game,’ almost anybody can beat anybody else in our league.”
Liz Wentlent scored six points in the first quarter as Greene led 17-4 after the first turn. Wentlent and McDermott split 18 points evenly to aid the Greene cause.
Greene hosts Hancock tonight in a rescheduled game from last week, and Oxford plays at Unadilla Valley Tuesday.

Morris Boosters Tournament
G-MU 30, Otselic Valley 23
ONEONTA – G-MU’s Tanya Barnes and Ashlea Osborne teamed up for a big fourth quarter leading the Raiders past OV in the Morris Boosters Tournament consolation gam.e
The Raiders’ duo had 11 of their team’s 13 fourth-quarter points to give their team some breathing room. OV, despite poor shooting from the field, trailed by only two points entering the fourth. “It was kind of like the game with Morris the night before,” said OV coach Kevin Springers. “We had plenty of good shots, but we shot it terribly. I don’t know what it is, but we never seem to shoot well there (Oneonta State Fieldhouse).”
Charlotte Valley held a significant advantage (14-1) from the foul line to provide the difference in a 26-21 opening-round win over the Raiders in the Morris Boosters Tournament first-round matchup.
Sam Meyerhoff had 14 of CV’s points including 10 made free throws.
Osborne and Cass Calamia split 14 points evenly for the Raiders. “We played really well, obviously the difference was the foul shooting,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson.
Morris outscored Otselic Valley 21-8 in the middle two quarters to erase the Vikings’ early lead to move onto the finals of its own tournament with a 44-31 win.
Cindy Slack had a season-high 10 points for OV and Heather Eaton buried three three balls scoring nine points in the loss. The Vikings host Old Forge tonight.
