Greene 4, Vestal 0
GREENE – The Trojans answered their first division loss earlier this week with a shutout victory over longtime foe Vestal Thursday.
Christine Conroe set up one goal and finished off the Trojans’ scoring with one of the team’s prettiest goals this season. Taking a crossing pass from Andrea Day, Conroe fired a one-timer into the cage. Day also had a goal and Holly Davis finished with two goals in the win. “We started off sluggish and then kind of got it together,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “Christine’s stickwork was great tonight and she just makes things happen. The play she scored on, I couldn’t have drawn it up any better.”
The Trojans’ defense did not allow a shot and held a 15-0 advantage over the Golden Bears.
Greene plays defending sectional champion Maine-Endwell on Wednesday.

OXFORD – Greene averted Norwich’s upset bid with two tallies in the second half to pull away from the Tornado and advance to the finals of the Oxford Tournament.
Norwich’s Jason Woodard scored on a penalty kick at the 35-minute mark of the second half to knot the game. Fifteen minutes later, Craig Hebbard provided a spark for the Trojans netting the go-ahead goal. Mark Day added the third tally with 5:47 to play to give Greene breathing room.
“Norwich came out and played hard. For a young team they showed a lot of heart,” said Greene coach Rick Tallman. “We weren’t ready to play at the start and maybe we were still disappointed after the loss to Delhi. Hebbard played well for us all game and seemed to motivate the team.”

OXFORD – Norwich advanced to the Oxford Soccer Tournament finals for the second straight season beating Greene Thursday night.
Elma Borcilo figured in both Norwich goals scoring off a direct kick from 30 yards out in the first half. Borcilo set up the second goal sending a through ball to freshman Hannah Killean, who touched the ball past the keeper for a two-goal lead in the second half. “Our defense has been better because they’re getting more of a chance to rest,” said Norwich coach Jeremy Bolton. “The offense is possessing the ball more and we’re getting more shots.”
Megan McDermott tallied for Greene in the final five minutes.

WALTON – The Storm won their second 1-0 decision this week and extended their winning streak to seven games Thursday at Walton.
Jessica Lorence scored the game’s lone goal at 29:53 of the first half with an assist from Sarah Hutchinson. Emily Sugar made two saves for the shutout in goal.
“Our defense has been solid this year and Emily is aggressive at keeper,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. “Everyone on our offense has the ability to score. We spread it around, and that makes us a more dangerous team on offense.”
