Whitney Point 3, Greene 2 (OT)
WHITNEY POINT – Greene battled back to force overtime, but ended up losing its first Section IV, Division One game this season, Tuesday at Whitney Point.
Amanda Theleman had the winning goal with 2:46 remaining in overtime following a penalty corner. Theleman picked up a loose ball after a failed Greene attempt to clear the ball out of the penalty circle.
“It was pretty evenly matched and they have a great goalie (Alesha Widdall),” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “I was pleased with the way our kids pressured her and kept their composure.”
Greene’s Andrea Day answered Whitney Point’s first goal at 21 minutes just three minutes later. After Molly Hurd gave Point the lead again, Holly Davis sent the game into extra minutes tallying with under two minutes to play.
“We played hard the whole game and Elisa Shearer gave us great minutes off the bench, especially after moving from goalie to a field player,” Carlin said. “Everyone stepped up and it’s an unfortunate result. We had chances at the beginning of overtime, but didn’t get quality shots off.”
Greene (3-2) hosts Vestal Thursday.
