Council approves new assistant police chief

NORWICH – Tuesday night’s meeting of the City of Norwich Common Council included two public hearings and several individual recognitions.

The meeting began with Police Chief and acting Fire Chief Joseph Angelino swearing-in new Assistant Police Chief Rodney Marsh. Marsh, who has been with the department for 15 years, was promoted from the rank of sergeant. His appointment is temporarily provisional until the next Civil Service examination.

Angelino then switched hats to attend to fire department business. He awarded Assistant Fire Chief Jan Papelino with a certificate of appreciation for the work he has done over the past year.

“I’ve been at the fire department just about a year now,” said Angelino. “I never thought during that time I would have to purchase two fire trucks, an ambulance and over $200,000 worth of equipment. That could not have happened without Chief Papelino.” Members of the council thanked Papelino for his work over the last year.
